Three Peaks Challenge

Weaverham Cricket Club

Fundraising to support

Hebden Green Community School, Winsford, Cheshire.

27th & 28th May 2010
The Challenge
The Three Peaks Challenge is an attempt to climb the three highest peaks in the UK in 'one go'!
Over 24 hours you will climb a mountain in Scotland, England and then Wales.
These peaks are Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon. Completed in that order.
If you’re interested in taking part in this amazing opportunity to raise money for a fantastic cause and also challenge yourself then put your name down behind the bar at the Cricket Club, call Helen Butler on 01606 854 924, or visit the challenge website for more details.
The Cause
Hebden Green Community School provides for pupils who have physical and medical difficulties, many of the pupils have learning difficulties and sensory impairments.
The school has to meet the needs of pupils with a wide range of abilities, including those who have moderate or severe learning difficulties and some who have profound and multiple learning difficulties.
Physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, specialised information technology access and medical/nursing support are crucial to the development, health and welfare of many of the pupils on an everyday basis – this all costs a lot of money!
The school aims to give every child the opportunities to make the best possible progress in all areas of their development.  Each pupil is valued as an individual.
Although the school receives some local authority funding this provides for only the very basic and so the school relies heavily on fundraising.
Everything the school needs to help its pupils is expensive, even a chair for the child to sit on can cost from £500 - £2,000! The school needs to raise money for special equipment to help some of the children who can’t speak to communicate, this machine on its own can cost up to £5,000.
Every penny raised by the 3 Peaks Challenge will help the children at Hebden Green Community School to enjoy a better quality of care and development whilst at school.
